Pranks!
Pranks are fun and can be cruel. On the client-side a prank is just an unexpected disturbance in the norm. For a prank to create a social impact it must be a disturbance that creates a revelation in your audience. But to get hits you just need to make people laugh. Techniques for creating a client-side disturbance with a sense of humor abound, including: urban modifications like adbusters and graffiti, infiltrations like the Yes Men and Monochrome, hoaxes like Dog Island and Forget-me-not-panties, candid hidden camera pranks from television and normal folks all over the world, crowd sourcing projects like Improv Everywhere’s annual No Pants event and more. This is a brief look at a variety or prank and the ways they manifest themselves on the web. This is in no way a comprehensive list, but it should be a start toward you designing your own prank and documenting it on the web.
