New vid scams itself to #1 YouTube Most Viewed of All-Time?

Fan-made music video Alcohol-vs-Hot-Hot-Sex overtakes Evolution of Dance as YouTube’s #1 Most Viewed Video of All-Time…. but is it legit? Waxy investigates…

If you look at the ratio of views-to-ratings, you’ll see the CSS video has a very unusual 21,487-to-1 ratio… the average ratio for every other video in the top 10 is a more reasonable 590-to-1. This ratio is representative of other popular videos, too; the median ratio for the entire top 500 is 545-to-1.

But notice that there are two other videos with ratios hovering around 20k, and several more > 10k. Then there’s two videos with ratios 5 times higher, at 100k. Most of these are music videos, too. *shrug*

Buying traffic? Technical glitch? YouTube’s “Links” trackback list is notoriously poor; contrast it with Viddler embeds, where we’ve seen the number of trackbacks can be nearly as high as the number of views thanks to syndication and splogs. This video really could be getting embedded like crazy in Brazilian circles and we Anglophones (and YouTube) are just out of touch.

I’d like to think that Evolution of Dance is a better than this iMovie 101 garbage, but hits don’t lie. Or do they?

Do you really think this is new thing? Your blog is really good to me, I read it to get useful info, but sometimes I’m bored to tears.
